Fables Sin Fronteras

Fables Sin Fronteras is a heartfelt and symbolic children's book that weaves together timeless fables familiar in both English and Spanish. The essence of this project is to celebrate and explore culture and identity, utilizing the power of color to convey its significance while imparting the richness of both Spanish and English languages to readers. Although designed with young audiences in mind, this book is a gateway for anyone curious about the nuanced realities of Mexicans, Chicano/as, and those with immigrant backgrounds.

In the creation of this project, I embraced the digital realm for its efficiency and the myriad of tools it provides, with Clip Studio Paint being my preferred application. The selection of colors was a deliberate process, inspired by the harmonious interplay of hues and shades, often drawing from the vibrant palette seen in the artwork of Chicana artist Carmen Lomas Garza. The narratives woven into the book are deeply rooted in Mexican American culture. My intention was to gently unveil the experiences of immigrants and Chicanos living in the United States, without overwhelming the reader. To achieve this balance, I chose to center the fables around animals, making them the primary focus while infusing each tale with profound cultural symbolism.
