Initial Certification Process

Requirements

  • Completion of all program requirements.
  • Successful completion of internship
  • Maintained a 2.75 or higher GPA in coursework
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Passed the required TExES State exams.

When all requirements have been met, each candidate must apply with both ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for the Texas Standard Teacher certificate.

Please do not apply for certification until all requirements below have been met.


Steps to Apply for Alternative Initial Certification

  1. Submit the Alternative Initial Certification Application
  2. Complete the online application with the
  3. Choose "Standard Applications and “Alternative " as entity.
  4. Once your initial certification application is received, verified and approved, you will receive an email confirmation from the Texas Education Agency that you have been recommended by ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University.

Because of the high volume of applicants, the certification process can take approximately six weeks from the time your application is received, and all requirements are verified. Please make sure all requirements are met, or the processing of your certification application will be delayed.
