Pre-Veterinary Studies

The admission requirements for Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine (proposed for EY2021), and other veterinary schools throughout the United States most often include an earned bachelor’s degree with the following:

  • 3 semester hours of general animal nutrition (ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University does not offer this course)*;
  • 4 semester hours of general biology with lab;
  • 4 semester hours of microbiology with lab;
  • 4 semester hours of genetics;
  • 8 semester hours of general chemistry;
  • 8 semester hours of organic chemistry;
  • 4 semester hours of biochemistry (must contain three hours of lecture);
  • 8 semester hours of physics;
  • 3 semester hours of statistics (ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University does not offer the required course)*;
  • 3 semester hours of communication/public speaking;
  • 3 semester of English composition or any 2 English courses

* ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University does not offer these required courses for Texas A&M. Student must complete these courses at another four-year institution.

With that said, Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine, which is the only veterinary college in Texas, does accept applications from students who have not as of yet completed an undergraduate degree.
