Advising

English, Modern Language, and Philosophy faculty members are available to advise junior and senior majors and answer your questions. Contact the department to set up your advising appointments each semester at the announced times. The Undergraduate Advising Center will advise freshman and sophomore majors.

Language Lab

A contemporary language laboratory is available if you are studying a foreign language. For information contact Dr. Damián Robles.

Q: How do I set up my advising each semester?

A: You should contact the appropriate advisers for your level and major.

Freshman and sophomore students should schedule advising appointments with the Undergraduate Advising Center at the appropriate time. For more information, call (409) 880-8822 or (409) 880-8954. Juniors, seniors and graduate students should schedule an advising appointment with the English department office. Advising begins roughly November 1 for Spring and April 1 for Summer or Fall.

Q: I am graduating this semester (or next semester). What should I do?

A: For our department, you should schedule an exit interview early in your graduating semester. You should then apply to graduate with the Records office.

Q: How do I apply for graduate school?

Write a statement of purpose or intent in which you discuss your educational background and your reasons for wanting to go to graduate school. Send the letter to the chair of the department. Take the GRE.
