LU Collegiate 100 welcomes baker’s dozen to organization

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Collegiate 100 chapter welcomed 13 new members with a formal induction ceremony featuring guest speaker and member of the 100 Black Men of Greater Beaumont Pastor Lee Fields, Jr., from East Mount Olive Baptist Church, Port Arthur.

“We are so excited about inducting our "Baker's Dozen" and I am just so proud that the word is getting out to students at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University about all the great work our Collegiate 100 chapter is doing on and off campus, in the community locally and on a national level,” said Dr. Kathryn Washington ’91 who serves as faculty advisor for the organization. “This semester of inductees come from diverse backgrounds that not only are from the Beaumont and Houston area, but also internationally such as Sudan, East Africa and the Congo.”

The Collegiate 100 is a campus-based student organization with its programmatic initiatives that support the development of social, emotional and educational needs of youth who need positive role models in the in the communities in which they live. 

Since being chartered in February of 2021, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University’s Collegiate 100 chapter has been impacting change and doing work that matters within the Southeast Texas community. The organization was recently chosen as one of top 10 chapters by the 100 Black Men of America to participate in the launch of the 2022 Collegiate 100 Leadership and Career Institute –– a pilot program focused on providing C100 members with leadership development and professional growth opportunities.

Chase Arceneaux - Sophomore

“This is our largest class to date and it is my hope to continue to grow the C100 and give more students opportunities for leadership growth, mentorships, scholarships and networking as they complete their degrees at LU and beyond,” Washington said.

With its newly inducted members in tow, the LU C100 chaptered will travel to Atlanta, Georgia from Oct. 6-9 for the Collegiate 100 Conference where current President Chidi Orakpo, who created the conference design, will be emceeing one of the scheduled events.
