Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music presents inaugural Voice Festival

The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music is pleased to present their inaugural Voice Festival on Nov. Voice Festival 20215-6 in the Rothwell Recital Hall located on the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University campus. The festival welcomes Gwendolyn Alfred, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University alumna and assistant professor of voice at Texas Southern University, as the guest performer and lecturer.

“Our annual Collage fundraiser event was instrumental in making the Voice Festival possible. By having Dr. Alfred as our guest lecturer, not only are we able to bring expert artists to campus to enrich our students' learning experience, but also, we are shining a spotlight on one of our outstanding alumni,” said Serdar Ilban, associate professor of voice and opera.

Alfred will teach two master classes for ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ students and present a lecture recital titled "The Music of Black Composers: A Journey from Spirituals to Art Songs." In addition, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Opera Theatre will present An Evening of Arias and Scenes on Friday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Other events include master classes, a Q&A with Alfred and numerous breakout sessions.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Opera Workshop and Opera Theatre proudly provide a multitude of enriching performance experiences for both graduate and undergraduate students with operatic potential. Their goal is to teach students the skills necessary to perform on the operatic stage with confidence and to prepare them for further study in the field of vocal performance. Our students have the opportunity to work with artist teachers and dedicated educators who bring a wealth of professional experience into the academic setting.

Furthermore, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Opera Theatre directs itself toward becoming accessible to all segments of the greater community in Beaumont by promoting and increasing public knowledge and appreciation of opera.

All events, including the guest artist master classes and lecture recital, are free and open to public. For a complete listing of events, or for more information on the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music, please visit lamar.edu/music.
