August Happenings at Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum
Going back to school? Don’t worry. You still have time to enjoy great events at Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum.
Back-to-School Gusher
Aug. 10, noon
Before you have homework and are back to the grind, enjoy one last summer gusher at the museum on Aug. 10 at noon. Bring a towel and run out in the water to cool off. Or just admire the height of the water and imagine what it would look like back in 1901 with oil going that high. The gusher is free to watch. There is an admission fee to tour the museum.
Family Programs
Aug. 8 & 22, 5-7 p.m.
Fun and adventurous family programs are on the second and fourth Thursdays in August (Aug. 8 & 22) and are planned to take visitors back in time to life in 1901. The featured guest on Aug. 8 is the Beaumont Fire Department. Families will have a chance to interact with firefighters and their firetruck. On Aug. 22, kids will try out their engineering skills making a balloon car. Museum members are free; non-members pay regular admission.
“Going back to school can be hectic. The museum is providing fun programs that relieve stress during this month of August,” said Troy Gray, Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum director.
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is a replica of the boomtown that grew up around the Spindletop oil fields in the early 1900s. The entrance fee is $5 for adults; $3 for senior citizens; and $2 for children under 12. Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located on the corner of Jimmy Simmons Boulevard and Cardinal Drive on the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University campus. The museum is open Tues. – Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m.. For more information, please call 409-880-1750, visit Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum or email the museum.
