Nunez tapped Rotary International Global Grant Scholar

Ryan NunezÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University senior Ryan Nunez of Port Arthur has been named a Global Grant Scholar by Rotary International District 5910 and will use the scholarship for graduate study in the Netherlands next year. 

Rotary Global Grant Scholarships fund graduate-level coursework or research for one to four academic years. A key feature of global grants is the partnership between the district or club in the study location and the district or club in the scholar's home country. 

Actively involved in the since her freshman year in 2013, Nunez has served various officer positions including treasurer, president, and past president. She worked on local and international service projects and attended numerous local and district meetings representing the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Rotaract Club. In June 2017, she attended the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. 

"I am excited that she was endorsed for the scholarship by our local Rotary Club and serve as a representative for our club and community abroad," said Rebekah Maxwell, coordinator in the Reaud Honors College who will be serving as her mentor during her year abroad. "When she served as president of the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Rotaract Club, Ryan gave regular reports to their sponsor the Rotary Club of Beaumont and regularly helped in the service projects they organize."

Maxwell continued, "I look forward to working with Ryan through the final application process and the transition of moving and studying abroad. Her focus on pursuing a degree in business and sustainability will help her in her future career and her volunteer activities in looking at how to build sustainable practices and projects."

Nunez's Global Grant Scholarship is sponsored by the and will be funded through the District 5910, which covers Southeast and East Texas.

Nunez is very grateful to Rotary District 5910 for selecting her for the scholarship, she said.   The scholarship will allow her to broaden her business knowledge through study in an area of interest in her professional life, she said. “Personally, though, this experience will provide me with the opportunity to grow by allowing me to live in another country and be immersed in another culture,” she said.

A ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University Mirabeau Scholar, she will graduate in May 2018 with a degree in accounting. In addition to her involvements with the LU Rotaract Club, she has been very active in the Reaud Honors College, engaged in the many academic and social offerings available through the program. She has served as a peer mentor, represented LU on the Great Plains Honors Council executive board, and was instrumental in the Reaud Honors College’s successful hosting of the three-day regional conference that drew participants from several states to the LU campus in Spring 2017.

Nunez plans to pursue a Masters of Science in global business and sustainability at in Rotterdam, Netherlands and will begin her studies in September 2018.
