Beta Gamma Sigma taps Venta Dean of the Year
Enrique (Henry) R. Venta, dean of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University’s College of Business since 2002, was recently honored as “Dean of the Year” by Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. He is honored as the 2017 recipient among the 576 BGS chapters worldwide.
“On behalf of our Board of Governors, it is an honor for us to recognize Dean Henry Venta and the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University BGS chapter,” said Christina Carosella, CEO of Beta Gamma Sigma.
His teaching and research activities are in the areas of strategic issues in operations, work systems design, operations planning, total quality management, managing the service sector, and clinical decision making. His academic accomplishments include Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in management science and economics from Northwestern University and a B.S. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. Venta has published or presented more than 50 articles, chapters and monographs.
Dean Venta invests in the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter’s leadership by funding the travel for both the chapter advisor and administrator to attend Collegiate Chapter Training Seminars. He is a strong advocate for Beta Gamma Sigma and continually works to engage the members of his chapter.
Each year, he serves as the emcee for the chapter’s Founders Day ceremony, which takes place at their BGS Bronze Key on campus. Venta also encourages tapping ceremonies to take place within the classroom, increasing BGS recognition and prestige on-campus.
He plays an active role in developing BGS members as students and professional leaders beyond the grounds of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University. Venta fully funded four ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ students’ attendance at the 2016 Global Leadership Summit in Dallas. In support of the altruism encouraged by the BGS Gives Back program, he also encouraged LU business students to volunteer at the Southeast Texas Foodbank in 2016.
To commemorate leadership and excellence while encouraging and honoring the academic achievements of ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ’s BGS members, Venta holds an annual essay contest covering the importance of BGS’ values and awards the winner a $500 scholarship at each recognition ceremony.
