EE majors England and Perry place in IEEE paper competition

Mason England and Kyle Perry, both senior electrical engineering majors at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University, have been awarded honors at the 2017 IEEE Region 5 Eastern Area Competition for student papers.

Mason England, a native of Magnolia, took home 3rd place in the 2017 Region 5 student paper competition. The completion was held at the 2017 IEEE Region 5 Annual Meeting and Conference in Denver, Colorado. England presented his paper: “HVDC Transmission for Alternative Energy in the United States.”

Kyle Perry from Anahuac also presented at the conference after having won, with Mason, the IEEE Region 5 Eastern Area Competition. His paper title was: “Near Infrared Spectroscopy Theories: Comparing Differences and Designs.”

The Region 5 Annual Conference and Student Competitions event is structured as a weekend event that includes student competitions, student professional activities conference, young professionals meeting, and the R5 Annual Conference.

Region 5, comprised of 26 local sections and more than 90 student branches, has more than 23,000 higher grade members, over 3,600 student members and represents 7 percent of the world-wide IEEE population.
