Alumni Affairs hosts Jazz Night
ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University’s Office of Alumni Affairs invites LU alumni to Jazz Night at Rao's Mid-County location at 3504 Highway 365 in Nederland, 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday, March 23.
Seating is limited, and the registration fee is $7 per person. Advance registration is required by March 17 at 5 p.m. at lamar.edu/jazznight.
Participants will enjoy the performance, get to know fellow LU alumni and sample specialty beverages, sandwiches and LU-themed desserts made by Rao’s.
“The event is a time where alumni can gather to network and celebrate their connection to ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University,” said Shannon Copeland, director of Alumni Affairs and Advancement Services.
Jake Tortorice, owner of Rao’s, is an LU alumnus, past alumni board president and longtime ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University supporter. LU has hosted Jazz Night since 2012 at varying Rao’s locations. Jazz performers have been LU alumni, students, or faculty musicians.
“ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University music students will perform some jazz music, giving them opportunity to hone their public performance skills while showing our talent to the community,” she said.
Rick Condit, associate professor and director of jazz studies from the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music, will organize the students’ performance.
The Office of Alumni Affairs connects past and future graduates with ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University and to each other. Its mission is to actively engage alumni within the life of the university through communication and meaningful programming. Through increased engagement, alumni help advance ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University and its position in the community, nation, and world.
