LU hosts master class with violinist Ryu Goto
ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University’s Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music will host a master class with internationally renowned violinist on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to observe the master class in the Rothwell Recital Hall. Admission is free.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to see one of the world’s preeminent violinists in a teaching setting,” said Kurt Gilman, chair of the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music.
Goto's career began at the age of 7 when he made his debut at Sapporo, Japan's Pacific Music Festival, playing Paganini's “Violin Concerto No.1.” Since then, he has appeared as a soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Philharmonic, Wiener Symphoniker, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He has performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Shanghai’s Grand Theater, Munich’s Herkulessaal and the Musikverein in Vienna.
In May 2011, Goto graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in physics. He is a member of the US-Japan Council and has accepted an award from the Japanese American Bar Association as a Japanese American leader.
This program is made possible through a grant by the Symphony League of Beaumont to the Symphony of Southeast Texas. Goto will also perform as a guest artist with the Symphony of Southeast Texas on Saturday, Jan. 23, in their "Only in America" classics series concert.
