The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University Staff Council invites everyone to enjoy a cup of coffee, mingle with campus partners, and spend an afternoon collaborating and chatting. There will be a coffee truck on-site from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Starting at 1:30 p.m., join us for a welcome session and engaging breakout discussions.

Fire Alarm and Sprinkler System Testing & Drills

Beginning May 18, Facilities will be conducting fire alarm and fire sprinkler system testing throughout campus. During this period, scheduled fire drills will also take place to ensure systems are operating properly and occupants are familiar with emergency procedures.

Call for Entries for "Bridges of Belonging" Exhibition

Dates to submit entries: Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: Dishman Art Museum

Hosted by The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University Resiliency Think Tank, "Bridges of Belonging: The Art of Humanity, Humility, and Resiliency" is seeking entries. Student and alumni participants are invited to submit art work that explores themes of cultivating belonging, humanity, humility, and/or resiliency.

Syllabus Simplified Workshop

Date: Tuesday, May 26, 11 a.m.
Location: Galloway Building, Room 108

Center for Academic Success offers four 60-minute summer syllabus workshops. Join a hands-on session to simplify your syllabus, clarify expectations, and prepare questions so you start class confident. The first workshop will be held on May 26 at 11 a.m. in the Galloway Building, Room 108. We look forward to seeing you!

Baseball Hosting

The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University Baseball Team has an opportunity to win its first conference tournament title since 2010, and we need you in the stands at the Vincent-Beck Stadium this weekend, Cardinal fans!

LU will host rivals, the McNeese Cowboys, in a best-of-three championship series beginning this Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The second game will take place on Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m., and third game (if necessary) on Saturday, May 23 at 6 p.m. For more information, visit lamarcardinals.com/tickets.

Mary & John Gray Library Temporary Closure Due to Construction

The Mary & John Gray Library will be closed from May 18 to May 31, due to construction. During this temporary closure, the service desk in the former Student Health Center will also be unavailable, along with access to interlibrary loan services, physical books, and reserve materials. The only library support available will be through the 24/7 Ask a Librarian chat service, email, or phone. Services will resume June 1. For help, contact ask@lamar.libanswers.com or (409) 880-7264.

Artificial Intelligence Awareness Training

ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University Information Technology (IT) has launched an annual Artificial Intelligence (AI) Awareness Training as mandated by Texas Government Code 2054.

This training is required for all faculty and staff and must be completed by the deadline below:

Training Due Date: Friday, August 14, 2026
The training is accessible through Training Nest and consists of a 30-minute AI Awareness video.

Completion of this training is required to ensure compliance with state requirements.

Please contact HR if you have any issues accessing the training at trainingnest@lamar.edu.

ERS Dental Plans to Transition to Humana Beginning September 1, 2026

Humana will be the new third-party administrator for the State of Texas Dental Choice Plan and the dental health maintenance organization (DHMO)—which will be called the HumanaDental DHMO plan—beginning Sept. 1. Visit the HR website to learn more.

Visit the Academic Affairs Policies page to offer feedback on two proposed policies focused on students: Late Arrival for International Students and Recording Thesis and Dissertation Defenses. The policy drafts are open for 30-day campus review through May 31. Your comments are welcome.

Nominations for the 2026 David J. Beck Teaching Excellence Award are now open.  Nominations from current or former students, faculty, or administrators are welcome. No Self Nominations accepted. Past Nominees are welcome to apply.
