CDAC Workshop: No GPU? Unleash Supercomputing Power in TACC

The Center for Data Analytics and Cybersecurity (CDAC) is hosting a training workshop to teach people how to utilize the power of the Texas Advanced Computing Center (). There will be three sessions: Oct. 14, 17, and 25.

Settling Malo
Settling St. Malo with Randy Gonzales

Date: Monday, Oct. 21, 5 - 7 p.m.
Location: Dishman Art Museum Auditorium

Dr. Randy Gonzales (LSU-Lafayette) will read sections of his poetry and talk about the history and culture of the Filipino American community at St. Malo, Louisiana. His poetry collection Settling St. Malo won the 2024 Summerlee Book Prize from the Center for History and Culture.

Phi Beta Delta Fall 2024 Lunch and Learn

Cards Against Drunk Driving

Location: Setzer Student Center, Live Oak Ballroom

Learn about the dangers of driving under the influence and hear from local resources, eat some good food and drive LUPD’s drunk cart. Pizza will be available on a first come, first served basis.

AniMeals Pet Food Drive Kick-off & Halloween Hangout with Lace-E

Date: Thursday, Oct. 31, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Galloway Business Building, Room 102

Come meet and take a picture with Lace-E, a Blue Lacy emotional support dog, and grab a Halloween treat! We will also be collecting dry dog or cat food, and wet dog or cat food donations. Donations will support AniMeals (a program within Meals on Wheels). More information can be found .

Whispers from the Cardinals: A Haunting Night of Ghost Stories

Date: Thursday, Oct. 31, 4 - 6 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, 125/127 Cypress

Please join us for some spooky Halloween fun as we read ghost stories and enjoy some treats. Register to read aloud, join our costume contest, or both. Costumes are encouraged, butnot required. Please keep readings and costumes PG-13.

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Opera Theatre Halloween Concert

Date(s): Thursday, Oct. 31 & Friday, Nov. 1, 7:30 - 8:45 p.m.
Location: Rothwell Recital Hall

ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Opera Theatre will present a Halloween Showcase presenting works from opera, musical theater and art song genres. All performances are free and open to the public.

Captain's Kickoff For Lupus Foundation

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 6, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The Lupus Foundation is hosting its "Captain's Kickoff" event. There will be a ribbon cutting by the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, followed by food, drinks, and music. It's a great time to come out and hear what the walk is about, join or create a team for the walk, or sign up to volunteer.

Cardinal Care First Gen Resource Fair

Date: Thursday, Nov. 7, Noon - 2 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center (atrium)

The purpose of this event is to provide students with information on how to prepare for finals, study tips, self-care awareness, campus resources, and more. Different departments from across the campus will be there. There will be lots of giveaways. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Walk Like MADD 5k

Date: Saturday, Nov. 9, 7:30 a.m. - Noon
Location: Spindletop Boomtown Museum

The 2024 Walk Like MADD Beaumont event is MADD's signature fundraising event to help us raise both awareness and funds to eliminate drunk and drugged driving. Register and donate today to help us save more lives. Fire Truck Pull will be held at 10:30 a.m.

2024 Cardinal Ideas Pitch Competition

Date: Thursday, Nov. 14, 1:00 - 6:30 p.m.
Location: CICE Building, Room 113

Teams must include at least one active LU student. must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Selected teams will be invited to pitch their idea for a new product or business to a panel of judges with experience in entrepreneurship.

Cardinal View Fall 2024

Date: Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center & Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center

Join us for Cardinal View, ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ University's biggest open house event. You and your family are invited to campus to learn about academic majors, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, student organizations, campus resources, and what life looks like at LU.

O.U.R. 2024 Fall Conference - Abstract Submission Deadline on October 25

The Office of Undergraduate Research invites all ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ students to present posters or give talks at the O.U.R. 2024 Fall Conference on Nov. 15, 2024. This is a whole day event which welcomes research and creative activities from all academic areas. The abstract submission deadline is this Friday, Oct. 25. Cardinal Closet Donations
Cardinal Closet Now Accepting Donations

We're accepting shirts, shoes, pants, dresses, coats, ties, and more for the Cardinal Closet. Any donated undergarments (socks, bras, underwear) must be new and in packaging, or with tags. Donation drop-off times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through Oct. 31, 2024. Drop-offs can be made at the Wesley Center, behind the Brooks-Shivers Dining Hall.

KVLU Fall Giveaway

KVLU's fall giving campaign begins Oct. 15 this year. Give any amount now through October 22 at 6 p.m. to qualify for automatic entry into the fall giveaway: an FM digital radio/CD player with internet and Bluetooth capabilities. The winner will be announced live on the air October 23 at 9 a.m.

LU Center for Resiliency Continues Disaster Backpack Distributions on Wednesdays

Finish out hurricane season by preparing with the LU Center for Resiliency Smartstorm disaster training and receive a backpack complete with emergency supplies to assist you and your family in the event of a disaster. Bring your participation verification to the Signature Center suites located in the Cherry Engineering Building on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

2025 David J. Beck Fellowship/Scholarship

The 2025 David J. Beck Fellowship includes up to $10,000 in funding for a summer project (summer 2025).  These are full academic scholarships covering all tuition, books, fees and on-campus room and board. Fall 2025-Spring 2026 applications can be found in myScholarship.

Send in your abstracts of posters or presentations by Wednesday, Dec. 18 for the College of Graduate Studies' 3rd Annual Graduate Research Conference on Feb. 12, 2025 at the Setzer Student Center. Our theme this year is "Wellness." Topics from all disciplines are encouraged.

State of Texas Seeking Non-Voting Student Representatives to TSUS Board of Regents & THECB

Deadline to apply: Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, 5 p.m.

Each year, the State of Texas seeks applicants for non-voting student representatives to the Texas State University System (TSUS) Board of Regents and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Students selected for these positions play an important part in representing the students of each Texas public university.

Applicants must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, be able to attend required TSUS or THECB meetings, and have a strong drive and self-motivation to contribute to the progress of higher education in Texas. Applications must be printed out and submitted no later than Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025 at 5 p.m. to the Office of the President, Reaud Building, Room 321.
