COSC 4365 – Computer Crime Analysis

Course Description:

This course analyzes the phases, processes, and challenges of cybercrime investigations, and it examines technical, legal, and social issues relating to the search and seizure of digital evidence and computer forensics.

Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  • Examine the legal issues and challenges that the changes in technology have created (identity theft, fraud, software protection, cyberterrorism, property rights violations and online stalking)
  • Examine how laws have expanded and changed to account for the increase of crimes in the digital age
  • Examine computer laws such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Electronics Communications Privacy Act, Communication Decency Act, and the Digital Millennium Act.
  • Examine the techniques and guidelines for observing, collecting, documenting and storing of electronic evidence, as well as, preparing for depositions and trials.
