ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University's Master of Science in Nutrition with a concentration in dietetics prepares students with the competencies necessary to become an entry-level registered dietitian nutritionist. In Jan. 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration declared that you must have a master's degree or higher to be eligible to sit for the CDR exam to become an RDN. With this program requiring just two hours of coursework, you can complete this program in just two years.
Upon graduation, you will be able to critically evaluate nutrition research and translate findings, integrate advanced knowledge of nutrition science into clinical settings, apply ethical principles and cultural competence in counseling, demonstrate leadership in interdisciplinary healthcare teams, communicate complex nutrition information to professional audiences, etc.
Nutrition Research: Examination of the scientific method and its application to the study of nutrition-based research.
Advanced Dietetics I: Exploration of evidence-based practice and delivery of nutrition and dietetics services for the patient in a healthcare facility with uncomplicated and complicated nutrition diagnoses.
Advanced Dietetics II: Exploration of evidence-based practice and delivery of nutrition and dietetics services for the individual, community and institutions.
Stats Application Kinesiology: A study of statistical theory with application of quantitative and qualitative techniques commonly used in Kinesiology research.
The Energy Nutrients: In-depth study of the macronutrients, the major building blocks of life. Sources, classification, functions, digestion, absorption, metabolism and excretion of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. coverage of the major energy-generating pathways. Emphasis on various categories of macronutrients as related to health. Metabolism and health effects of alcohol.
Obtaining a master's degree in dietetics/nutrition is required to become an RDN, but it can also open up career pathways into the clinical, community, corporate, research and food industry sectors.
