Professional Accounting-Management Information Systems Overview

ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ University's dual degree program in Master of Science in Professional Accounting and Master of Science in Management Information Systems allows you to study for and complete both programs at the same time. This program is for students already earning an M.S. PA with at least 12 hours of electives from the M.S. MIS, including ACCT 5390 and an additional 18 hours of M.S. MIS courses (15 hours of core courses and three hours of elective courses).

In order to be admitted into this program, you must complete separate applications for the M.S. PA and M.S. MIS programs, including complete of the GMAT, if required. You must meet the prerequisite requirements for application to both programs individually. You must meet the graduation requirements of each program individually, including minimum grade point average and time limit policies. You must also take particular note of the deadline dates for applications to each program and schedule the GMAT accordingly. 

In order to begin the certification process within each degree program, you must notify each program regarding your intent to graduate and apply for graduation separately, according to each program's deadlines and policies.

Professional Accounting-Management Information Systems Courses You May Take

Financial Accounting Research and Procedures: This course is a study of advanced topics in financial accounting and reporting. It focuses on complex corporate reporting issues. This course will emphasize the development of skills and knowledge necessary to conduct professional research and to identify appropriate accounting treatment of complex issues. This will not only entail the study of current financial reporting and disclosure requirements, but will include controversial and emerging practices.

Tax Research: An extensive examination of the methods employed to determine defensible solutions to problems in federal taxation. Emphasis is placed upon research methodology, proper documentation of research findings and effective communication of research findings to interested parties. The text is supplemented with outside readings and case studies. Significant oral and written reports are required.

Advanced Accounting Information Systems: This course presents systems concepts and their application in the design, implementation, control, and audit of accounting information systems, including computerized systems.

Database Management Systems: This course covers design, implementation and management of database systems. Students will learn: 1. Database design concepts 2. The physical implementation of a database design with software such as MS Access, Oracle and Structured Query Language (SQL) 3. DBMS functions, database administration and database management approaches.

AI-Driven Progrmng for Business: This course makes programming accessible to students from all backgrounds, emphasizing problem-solving skills rather than expert-level coding. It covers core Python concepts, including variables, loops, logic, functions, and data types. Foundational mastery is required before using generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot. The course also includes basic data science, machine learning concepts, and emerging technologies.
